UCSF Medical Students and Family and Community Medicine Residents Protest Racial Injustice

UCSF medical students and Family and Community Medicine residents joined the national movement of protest about the shootings of unarmed black men and youth by police officers and the lack of grand jury indictments. On December 10, students and residents participated in peaceful “die-ins.” UCSF-SF General Hospital Family Medicine Residents issued a statement calling on “all healthcare professionals to examine how racism and systemic oppression in the form of profiling, police brutality, and excessive force devastate our patients and their communities.” Kevin Grumbach, MD, Chair of the UCSF Department of Family and Community Medicine, stated, “ I applaud these efforts by our students and residents to engage our community in deeper conversation about violence and racism as public health issues.”
