Jonathan Butler, PhD

In response to COVID-19, Dr. Jonathan Butler has partnered with the San Francisco African American Faith-Based Coalition (SFAAFBC) (www.sfaafbcoalition.org) and SF New Deal (www.sfnewdeal.org) to address food security in San Francisco. The SFAAFBC comprises 21+ churches whose mission is to mobilize San Francisco and its resources to eliminate health disparities and inequities in the Black/African-American communities. SF New Deal's mission is to provide revenue relief to small businesses and address exploding local food security. In 5 weeks, Dr. Butler, along with SFAAFBC and SF New Deal, has helped with providing 40,756 hot meals to San Francisco's most vulnerable residents: elders, individuals, and families living below the poverty line, people with pre-existing conditions. Many of our FCM faculty and staff members have volunteered with delivering hot meals to community members.

In collaboration with the SFAAFBC, SF Produce Market, Earls Organic Food, SFDPH, and San Francisco-Marin Food Bank,  Dr. Butler has also led efforts to provide more than 2000 fresh produce bags to vulnerable populations in San Francisco.
