2024 Rodnick Colloquium Plenary & Panelists

Eushavia Bogan (she/they) is a future physician interested in building public health systems that center equity, holistic care, and reciprocity. After completing her BA in Environmental Studies at Vassar College, Eushavia spent the past decade organizing with neighborhood stakeholders in her native Brooklyn, New York, to advance food sovereignty and improve community well-being. She collaborated with local coalitions to build urban farms, create community events, and facilitate science education programs. Since starting medical school at UCSF, Eushavia has continued to build upon these experiences and helped establish a Health Policy Scholars Program through the Primary Care Leadership Academy. This program supports students’ development and application of knowledge in health policy and systems change through revitalizing primary care. 

Michele Gomez, MD (she/her) became a family physician to help promote social justice, and attended UCSF for medical school and her residency in Family & Community Medicine.  For over twenty years Michele has provided primary care with integrated medication abortion - since 2000, when mifepristone was first approved by the FDA - and quickly shifted to telehealth medication abortion at the start of the pandemic.  She has also been working with TEACH (Training in Early Abortion for Comprehensive Healthcare) since 2004, training family medicine residents to provide procedural abortions.  Michele strongly believes in integrating early abortion into mainstream medical care, and currently works as a consultant to help primary care practices - including some here at UCSF - to do this.  She also co-founded the MYA Network - a network of primary care clinicians working to normalize abortion, medically and culturally.  Michele is also involved in advocacy and serves on Governor Newsom’s Future of Abortion (FAB) Council, the California Coalition for Reproductive Freedom, the California Abortion Alliance, and PRIVATE Medical Records, which she also co-founded.  Michele also works as a shield law abortion provider, helping patients across the country get the medical care they need.  She is honored to be here and eager to hear about the great work being done by her colleagues! 

Dr. Sharon Washington is an award-winning educator, designing courses and training that serve as safe havens for healing from the deep wounds of racism, sexism, and other forms of oppression. Among other initiatives, Sharon has led curriculum development, facilitator training, and evaluation of the UCSF Department of Family and Community Medicine racial affinity caucusing initiative, since 2020. Her goal? Empowering learners, professionals and leaders to harness their inner strength, institutional power, and societal privilege, to embody equity in healthcare. Sharon holds a doctorate in health education from Teachers College, Columbia University, a master's in public health from the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, and a bachelor's in African American Studies from Temple University. But beyond her academic credentials, she's also a grateful bio-mom to one daughter and a loving bonus-mom to three more. As we celebrate the 5th anniversary of the SWC, it's clear that Sharon's leadership has been instrumental. With over 25 institutions under her belt, she's tirelessly worked to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism (DEIA) initiatives, leaving an indelible mark on each organization she touches.
