The Rodnick Colloquium provides a wonderful opportunity to share your work. Members of the UCSF Department of Family & Community Medicine, including affiliated faculty, community partners, residents, fellows, staff, and students are invited to submit abstracts to be considered for oral presentations, workshops, and posters. We also welcome submissions from community-based health professionals and UCSF Family Medicine Education Alliance faculty, residents, and staff.  All submissions are peer reviewed.  

For 2024, the Colloquium will be held in person at the UCSF Mission Bay campus with a remote option. The day will include plenaries, presentations, workshops, and posters. In your submission, you will be asked your preference to present in person or remote. 

• Lecture discussion (oral presentation) – These interactive learning sessions feature three to four presentations in each 50 minute lecture-discussion. Each presentation includes a 6-minute oral presentation with 4 minutes of question and answer (i.e., 10 minutes total per presentation). Following the oral presentations, there will be time for group discussion at the end. 
• Poster – Narrated posters include a visual display of your work, as well as the option to narrate your poster and bring your work to life. Posters are an ideal way to present many types or work, including “in progress” efforts.
• Workshop – These sessions are designed to promote more in-depth exploration and discussion of topic. Each workshop includes 15 minutes didactic and 30 minutes of group engagement. Priority will be given to topics that feature synergy across one or more mission area.

Abstracts will be peer-reviewed and assessed on their degree of innovation/originality, importance, and ability to impact knowledge in their subject area. Abstracts reporting projects that are completed or nearly completed are strongly encouraged for all session types, particularly the lecture-discussion and workshop format. Sessions that feature collaboration between different sites, professions, and/or levels of learners are also strongly encouraged. For work that is in an earlier stage, descriptive abstracts of projects that are being planned or beginning may be better suited to the poster format.  This can be a great way to spread your ideas, get input from others, and potentially engage co-collaborators from other sites.

You should submit learning objectives, explain the topic’s relevance to medical education and to family physicians, and lay out how you will make the session interactive with the audience.  This is an opportunity for group engagement with a topic and that the expectation is that presenters would develop their sessions accordingly.

Acceptance notifications will be sent in March 2024 to the submitter(s) with a deadline to confirm your participation in the colloquium programming. 

At the end of the abstract submission form, all submitters must review and acknowledge the FCM Anti-Racism Guidelines for Colloquium Presenters document created by the FCM Advancing Anti-Racism in Research Methods working group. The working group also has a Qualtrics survey (linked here) to aid presenters in self-evaluating their submissions. To note, this survey will be required for accepted authors, but optional (and highly recommended) for all authors during this initial submission phase.
