Dr. Cory Johnson Appointed New Residency Program Director

Dr. Cory Johnson has been appointed as our Residency Program's next Director, effective January 6, 2025.

A graduate of Keck School of Medicine, Dr. Johnson completed the SFGH-UCSF FCM Residency program and has served as the program’s Director of Behavioral Sciences since 2021. That same year, his work to enhance the integration of behavioral health in primary care was recognized with one of FCM’s inaugural Health Justice Scholars awards.

Dr Johnson will be stepping into a role that has been occupied by only 6 other family physicians in the Residency Program’s 52-year history. Exemplifying the very best of this cadre, Dr. Diana Coffa has served in this position for over 10 years. Her tenure has been marked, among many accomplishments, by leaps of progress in DEIA and social justice, groundbreaking changes in the process of applicant interviews and selection, and steady growth in funding sources to ensure sustainability.

Dr. Johnson’s expertise in integrated behavioral sciences, his dedication to eliminating health disparities, and his passion for teaching uniquely position him to guide our learning community into an exciting new chapter.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Johnson and in expressing our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Coffa for her dedicated years of service!
