
Dae Hyoun Jeong, MD
Dr. Dae Hyoun (David) Jeong, MD, FAAFP is an Associate Clinical Professor at the UCSF School of Medicine and serves as the Medical Director of UCSF Primary Care at Laurel Village. He is also the Director of the Point-of-Care Ultrasound program for the UCSF/ZSFG Family Medicine Residency Program. Since joining UCSF in September 2023, Dr. Jeong has brought extensive experience in family medicine, sports medicine, geriatrics, and Point-of-Care Ultrasound.
Originally from South Korea, Dr. Jeong has been a strong advocate for diversity in U.S. healthcare since 2011, earning recognitions for his efforts in promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity. Dr. Jeong served as the chief medical consultant for the Korean Society of Maryland from 2022 to 2023. He has held key positions in international sports organizations, including serving as the medical chief for World Taekwondo, the governing body for Olympic Taekwondo. Dr. Jeong is passionate about primary care, Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS), and sports and exercise medicine. In his clinical practice, he utilizes advanced family medicine POCUS and musculoskeletal ultrasound for both diagnosis and treatment, while also offering tailored exercise prescriptions and counseling to a wide range of patients, including older adults, cancer survivors, and individuals with chronic conditions.
From July 2016 to September 2021 at SIU School of Medicine (SIU-SOM) in Springfield, IL, Dr. Jeong served SIU-SOM as an Assistant Professor and directed programs in Sports Medicine, Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine, and Point-of-Care Ultrasound at SIU Center for Family Medicine FQHC Clinic and SIU FM Residency Program as core faculty. He established primary care sports medicine and geriatric clinics within the FQHC clinic and served as the medical director for Lewis Memorial Christian Village Skilled Nursing and Long Term Care Facility, addressing healthcare needs for the rural population in Central Illinois. He also integrated portable ultrasound for primary care, musculoskeletal treatments, and nursing home patients.
As Assistant Professor and Medical Director at the University of Maryland School of Medicine's University Family Medicine clinic from October 2021 to July 2023, he managed the COVID-19 Omicron surge and introduced measures to enhance care continuity. Additionally, he directed the Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) program for the University of Maryland Family Medicine Residency Program and was actively involved in POCUS education for medical students.
Beyond his primary responsibilities, Dr. Jeong has had the privilege of serving as a lead sports medicine doctor at several prestigious events, including the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, 2018 Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games, 2019 Lima Pan American Games, 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, and the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Since 2017, he has chaired World Taekwondo's Medical and Anti-Doping Committee, where he implemented key safety measures such as random weigh-ins to prevent rapid weight loss, mouthguard regulations, strict concussion rules, and the use of POCUS for injury and illness surveillance. His contributions, including COVID-19 prevention strategies, earned recognition from the International Olympic Committee.
